Are we dreaming together with God—or separately without Him?
Marriage is not sustained by love alone—it is sustained by direction. Vision in marriage is less about goals on a checklist and more about knowing where you are going together. Without vision, couples rarely fall apart all at once; they drift slowly, carried by busyness, exhaustion, and the demands of life. Vision gives marriage something to aim toward, something to pray about, and something to build together. It turns daily routines into purposeful steps instead of disconnected motion.
Dreaming together begins with honest, ongoing conversation. Vision is not a one-time discussion reserved for the start of the year; it is a posture of attentiveness to where God is leading in each season. Healthy vision allows couples to zoom out, reflect on where they are, and discern what needs to shift. When vision is approached as a shared assignment—not individual agendas—it creates unity rather than tension. Vision is not about control; it is about alignment.
There is also wisdom in understanding the difference between short-term and long-term vision. Short-term vision helps couples navigate the present—what needs attention, protection, or intentionality right now. Long-term vision looks beyond the moment to legacy: marriage, children, finances, and spiritual growth. Vision helps couples prepare instead of react, giving them perspective when seasons change and patience when progress feels slow.
Ultimately, vision finds its strength when God is invited into the process. Dreaming without God is simply planning, but dreaming with God is surrender. Scripture reminds us to write the vision and trust God’s timing—some promises unfold quickly, while others require waiting, obedience, and faith. Vision keeps marriages from drifting because it anchors them to purpose. Even when the vision feels delayed, God’s promises are never denied.
